Bolso empleado por los curanderos o chamanes en las tribus indígenas de América, tanto en América del Norte como en la América precolombina.

El hurón doméstico (Mustela putorius furo) es un mustélido, subespecie del turón, que fue domesticado hace al menos 2.500 años. Otros mamíferos de la familia de los mustélidos tienen también la palabra «hurón» en sus nombres comunes. Por ejemplo, hay un escaso y protegido turón de Norteamérica conocido como hurón de pies negros.
Nadie sabe a ciencia cierta cuándo fue domesticado, pero algunos hallazgos arqueológicos de hurón datan del 1500 adC. Se cree que la domesticación fue similar a la del gato. Aún se usan para cazar en algunos países, sobre todo en Australia donde los conejos son una plaga y, a pesar de la tecnología moderna, la combinación de unas cuantas redes y un par de hurones, resulta muy efectiva.
En muchos sentidos, los hurones son como gatos que nunca crecen. Son enérgicos, curiosos y, sin embargo, son mucho más sociables que los gatos, y les gusta jugar con sus dueños. Dicen que los humanos domesticaron hurones por la curiosidad que despertaban; sea esto cierto o no, su curiosidad es superior a su instinto y esto hace que sus posibilidades de supervivencia en nuestro entorno sean bastante limitadas (muchos mueren explorando y reclinando sillas sin el conocimiento de sus dueños).
Los hurones son la tercera mascota más frecuente en Estados Unidos, después de los perros y gatos. Se ha afirmado en ocasiones que los hurones atacan a los niños pequeños, pero esta afirmación es falsa o al menos posee muy poco fundamento. En proporción, los hurones causan muchos menos daños que los perros o gatos.
Los hurones pasan la mayor parte del tiempo (de 14 a 18 horas al día) durmiendo, pero cuando están despiertos son muy activos, dedicándose a explorar su alrededor de forma exhaustiva. Los hurones son animales crepusculares, es decir, que son más activos durante el amanecer, el atardecer y parte de la noche. Si están enjaulados, deben ser sacados de forma diaria para que hagan ejercicio y satisfagan su curiosidad; necesitan al menos una hora y un lugar de juego. Los hurones, al igual que los gatos, pueden utilizar una caja (preferiblemente esquinera) para realizar sus deposiciones con un poco de entrenamiento, aunque es necesario tener cajas en distintos cuartos porque no la buscarán si les queda lejos. Los hurones son también buenos inquilinos del patio trasero y les encanta que les acompañen en el jardín. Sin embargo, no se les debe permitir vagar libremente; los hurones son audaces al punto de la insensatez y exploran cualquier agujero que encuentren, incluidos los desagües para la lluvia y las bolsas de las personas. The domestic ferret (Mustela putorius furo) is a mustelid, a subspecies of the polecat, which was domesticated at least 2,500 years ago. Other mammals in the mustelid family also have the word «ferret» in their common names. For example, there is a rare and protected North American polecat known as the black-footed ferret.
No one knows for sure when it was domesticated, but some archaeological finds of the ferret date back to 1500 BC. Domestication is believed to have been similar to that of the cat. Some say the ancient Egyptians kept ferrets, but it’s more likely that Europeans visiting Egypt saw cats, and thought using a small carnivore to protect grain stores was a great idea. The ferret is probably descended from the polecat (Mustela putorius), which is why the most widely used scientific name for this animal is Mustela putorius furo. It is also possible that ferrets have the steppe polecat (Mustela eversmannii) as ancestors.
For hundreds of years the main use of ferrets was hunting lagomorphs (rabbits). With their aggressive nature and long, slender body, they are well adapted to burrowing and hunting the animals within. They are still used for hunting in some countries, notably Australia where rabbits are a pest and, despite modern technology, the combination of a few nets and a couple of ferrets is very effective.
In many ways, ferrets are like cats that never grow up. They are energetic, curious, and yet they are much more social than cats, and they like to play with their owners. They say that humans domesticated ferrets because of the curiosity they aroused; whether this is true or not, their curiosity is superior to their instinct and this makes their chances of survival in our environment quite limited (many are killed exploring and reclining chairs without their owners’ knowledge).
Ferrets are the third most common pet in the United States, after dogs and cats. It has been claimed on occasion that ferrets attack young children, but this claim is false or at least very unsubstantiated. Proportionally, ferrets cause much less damage than dogs or cats.
Ferrets spend most of their time (14 to 18 hours a day) sleeping, but when they are awake they are very active, exploring their surroundings extensively. Ferrets are crepuscular animals, that is, they are more active during dawn, dusk and part of the night. If they are caged, they should be taken out daily to exercise and satisfy their curiosity; they need at least an hour and a place to play. Ferrets, like cats, can use a box (preferably a corner one) to defecate with a little training, although it is necessary to have boxes in different rooms because they will not look for it if it is far away. Ferrets are also good backyard tenants and love to be in the garden with you. However, they should not be allowed to roam free; Ferrets are bold to the point of insanity and will explore any hole they find, including rain gutters and people’s bags. It is distributed practically throughout all the oceans, with the large species of this family living in tropical waters (Indo-Pacific). They live enclosed in their shell on rocky reefs or coral banks. It usually measures between 8 and 10 cm. It was discovered by Mr. Carl Von Linne. Its synonym is C. Pardalis Shaw. The shell is crimped with a copper fringe and forming a hinge and closure.
